How Are You? Think Carefully Before You Answer

We often ask other people this question, “How are you?” But we fail to ask ourselves the same.

How many times have you looked at yourself and asked this simple yet profound question?

When other people who cared asked this question, we replied immediately with, “I'm fine” but are you really fine?

Have you taken some time to ask yourself if you are really fine or not?

It's okay to acknowledge your feelings every now and then, it doesn't mean that you are selfish or self-centered. It means that you actually care about yourself.

More often we disregard our happiness for the happiness of others. We barely talk to ourselves to know if we are really okay or not. Most of what we do is to care for others but what about ourselves?

What’s wrong with caring for yourself just as much?

“It's better to be selfless” you may respond. Yes, no dispute about that but don't you realize that you can't give what you don't have?

The Holy Bible says “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Now I ask you, “How can you love others when you don't care about yourself?”

Without love and care for oneself it becomes almost impossible to love and care for others also.

I ask you yet again, “How are you?”

Are you really fine or are you just pretending to be fine? With all the happenings around you, can you still say that you are fine?

Fine, sure, even when we are unhappy we can still spread happiness but where will the happiness come from if not from you? You can't be crying and expect others around you to be happy. For people around you to be happy, you have to be happy.

Take care of yourself and be happy before you can think of spreading some happiness into the world.

The question now is how can I take care of myself and be happy in this crooked world or how can I be happy again after what I went through?

When we look at how the world is going, It's just too difficult to be happy or when you look at the past errors or mistakes or the terrible experience you went through, it's almost impossible to smile again. But you can smile again, you can be happy again.

No matter what you are going through right now, you can still be happy even in the face of adversity.

This is one of the reasons I admire Paul so much, the writer of the Epistles in the Holy Bible. He said that even in his turmoil he is still happy and joyful (Verse). Why? Paul's joy amid difficulty is only possible because he's able to see the big picture. He sees the hand of the Almighty working through his difficulty.

I ask you again, “How are you?”

Are you fine because your life is moving smoothly or are you fine because of your faith that you will be fine?

I figured out that in life some people say they are fine because they hoped to be fine, some say they are fine because others are saying it and some say they are fine because they are truly fine within their hearts. Which one are you?

Are you really fine or are you just saying it to get past the question?

As I round up, I want you to ask yourself the question “How am I?” And I want you to answer the question sincerely and from your heart. If the answer is “Yes, I am fine.” Then congratulations, a big congratulations at that.

But if your answer is otherwise, please find happiness within yourself and care about yourself. And if you don't know how, I have a gift just for you. I have designed a 30-day happiness journal just for you.
